Young Helpers
Why do we have them?

We think it’s important to train young people and give them experience in taking responsibility, learning self-discipline, and gaining skills in leadership and relating with others.

What our young helpers learn in Kidz Klub can benefit them for life and can be a useful feature on their CV. We’re happy too to give them a certificate or a reference.

They are also a huge help to us in making Kidz Klubs run well. It is very moving to see young people who have grown up through Kidz Klub being so willing and committed to serve us and the younger children.

Our young helpers are also our future team members. A few of them have recently become full team members. More are on the way. This is very exciting!

Who can be one?

Any young person we have some relationship with who has become too old for Kidz Klub, has had the training, has a heart to help, is willing to be committed, agrees with the aims of Kidz Klub, and has served successfully for a trial period qualifies to be one of our young helpers.

Being given a coveted green Kidz Klub young helper t-shirt is a special and proud moment for our young helpers.

We do not disqualify someone from the great opportunity to be a young helper because of background, medical condition or special needs.

What do they do?

There are a massive variety of tasks – such as getting the place ready, helping with registration, collecting the subs, collecting the colouring sheets, showing new kids around, checking the loos, helping to run activities, keeping the place tidy, being a friend to a troubled kid, serving refreshments, helping with the techie stuff, assisting with the games, taking part in dramas, supervising the prize tubs, watching out for the best-behaved kids, clearing up at the end, and loads more!

How do we train them?

We run special training sessions from time to time in which we go through the important guidelines we expect them to follow.

We also like to thank them for the fantastic help they are. So we occasionally put on a special outing, or Debbie cooks them a delicious breakfast, or we give them a pizza feast!

Most of their training though comes on the job, and we ask our team members to monitor them and give them appropriate encouragement and sometimes sensitive correction.
